Hoc Est Corpus, 2002, neon sign, 120 x 92 x 10cm Hoc Est Corpus was commissioned by Site Gallery, Sheffield and exhibited as part of the exhibition 'Con Art', Site Gallery (16 Feb–6 April 2002). The work references the words ‘Hoc est corpus meum’ (this is my body), spoken by the priest as the host is miraculously transubstantiated during the Roman Catholic mass. A lay mishearing of this phrase may be the origin of the magical incantation ‘hocus pocus’. Site Gallery, Sheffield, 2002 >
